Governor Mutua is just full of hot air. Development has to be sustainable. It shouldn’t depend on the goodwill of the state or the author. I recall Mutua insulting the agitators of the new constitution.
He even had the audacity to insult Kenya’s most successful man alive Barack Obama, all in the name of defending a repressive state. I always wonder why the Kenyan media celebrates such a hollow and myopic PR Goebbels inspired propaganda laced approach to statecraft.
Mutua’s model of maendeleo is devoid of the human and intangible elements of development like justice, freedom, equality…it falls short of progressive ideals. It views development as the “erection of things”, hard and soft.
In Mutua’s warped worldview, development has to be material, it’s roads, buildings….without caring how the motorists on those roads feel…how free and liberated the citizens are…
Mutua’s model is analogous with the story of that rich dad who thinks that “so long as he has built a 10 BR house, with all amenities, like swimming pools but then molests his daughters, sodomizes his sons and rapes their mother everyday, they should be okay because they go shopping in a Lamborghini anyway”. It’s the Gaddafi model which dies with the designer of that model. When Gadaffi died, Libya died.. Mutua’s roads will be washed away when he leaves office….
Mutua ideals aren’t anchored in a firm foundation….they are like Tuju ambulances, which ended with his tenure…..Yet having travelled the world Mutua knows that the liberation of a people unleashes their full and suppressed potential….
America has accelerated its growth every time there is the expansion of freedoms….whether it was ending slavery, or allowing women or black people to vote, expansion of gay rights and so on,….expanded freedoms always preceded a period of economic explosion, because a people’s potential is unleashed…there’s not a thing Mutua is doing that people don’t know, it’s just their freedoms are restrained. His is more whipping people into line. It’s a Moist/Kanuist Puritanism, couched as the modern way of thinking. Ruto must love it.
Uhuru must admire it. This taradiddling and bamboozling higgleddy-piggledy form of development is the front page plucked from a KANU playbook, that litters white elephant projects everywhere.
And the media’s ability to agitate for expanded freedoms continues to be constrained every day…Mutua knows the correlation between media freedoms and development, he has a PhD in communication, but he has been silent during his last 10 yrs of active public life as the state runs amok on freedom of the press…
Mutua’s lifetime commitment seems anchored on defending the status quo, by saying that he needs to change the mindset of the people…not the leadership….he spares the head of the multicolored snake….while belittling the victim of the snake bites as the ones requiring re-education. Kenyans should reject the machinations of this latter day King of White elephant projects, who has dedicated his life to empty rhetoric. We are way sharper than this….good people.
