As Kenyans celebrated the coming of the Beijing heroes who took the Bird’s nest by storm, a section of public school-teachers- seemed disinterested with the goings on in JKIA.
In fact, a good number of them wish that the Jubilee government should sell the medals harvested from Beijing in order to raise money to pay them if the Treasury has failed to find an alternative way to raise funds.
The war of words between the government has escalated with a majority of teachers refusing to report to work till the new salary awarded by the courts is effected
The teachers have refused to be drawn into the patriotism debate claiming it is only the poor Kenyans who sacrifice for the nation as big men eat from the source (read members of parliament and top civil servants)
It remains to be seen if the government will sell the medals to raise funds or cut corruption to save enough that can afford teachers’ salaries.
