In as bad and as unfortunate as it may look, the ejection and the rejection of Magerer Langat from ODM was long overdue. Magerer Langat is an employee of ODM. He is paid from the money members of ODM contribute monthly. As a leader and employee of the party, he has a duty to use his words not only carefully, but also responsibly.
Politics is a dirty game. Anyone who puts his arm in politics must be ready to get dirty. Politics has no decency. There is no political laid down strategies, even in the political science class, of getting rid of joy riders, moles and people with opposing ideologies from our midst.
Powerful leaders in both strong and weak economies world over apply various tactics to get rid of a political obstacle standing their way. Some leaders detain and or jail their obstacles. Some leaders buy off their obstacles. Some leaders kill their obstacles. Some leaders award handsomely the to be obstacles so they can get their way. The formulas are many and no formula is known to be descent. No formula is popular.
The political torment that the Kibaki family went through as the first family was unbearable, especially as peddled by the media. Lucy Kibaki took the standard media group head on and brought their business to a standstill. This was a physical confrontation. It looked unreasonable but it served the moment.
Kibaki, because power is sweet, shed blood of innocent Kenyans through proxy, reasons why ICC is with us today. This was politics and it served him right at that moment.
Yoweri Museveni neutralized his opponent, Dr Besiege, who stood his way. He applied house arrests, jail terms and the use of crooks and highway muggers. Botha sent Mandela to jail for 27 years. Bush physically attacked Sadam Hussein. The list is long and endless.
In Kenya, burglars break into offices targeting a political document. Buildings are razed down to burn and conceal certain political interest.
Given that there is no laid down political procedure on getting rid of joy riders, ODM did the right thing to eject Magerer and should move forward and eject and reject more obstacles within. Just like a business entity, politicians and leaders must use their words responsibly. The purpose of creating a political party is to form a government. No government will be run if the political party responsible has a divided house.
I congratulate those who took the initiative to eject Magerer. They should move forward and remove all joy riders before 2017, so Kenyans can get disciplined leaders ready to steer them forward .
To Magerer and those feeling ODM is a dead party. What are you doing in a party you don’t believe in? Why are you drawing salaries from a party whose leadership you don’t subscribe to? You say ODM is long dead, yet you are strongly in it and you can’t move out. Who is fooling who? There are many political parties in Kenya. If you are not happy in ODM, be man or woman enough and change camps.
It doesn’t count how many apologies and investigations Anyang Nyongo or Raila Odinga will promise. The truth is, members are fed up with leaders who create factions within our party. We are not going to sit back and say all is well. Where leaders are afraid to act, as citizens, we will act. We will not sit back and watch pretenders within our party. We will not sleep until we get rid of all joy riders.
ODM, the whip must be cracked. It is long overdue.
