By Kipchuma Rono.
William Samoei Ruto has been telling the country that a certain opposition politician is behaving as if he is God and wants to be worshipped. Yesterday William himself wants to subdue every other leader in Kalenjinstan and have them worship at his feet. He is disrespectful of other elected leaders whom he perceive as politically and materially useless to him. Something he begun early in his political career. Historical libraries say he once physically engaged a certain north Rift MP, now deceased, whom he succeeded at the height of Kenya African National Union (KANU Party) dominion.
His public ruminations are not complete without torrents of insults directed at his opponents. One wonders whether he is the reason Hollywood invented SLNV acronyms to enhance parental guidance on minor watchers.William Ruto must respect other leaders. His constant outburst demotes the sophistication of office of the Deputy President of the Republic of Kenya into a hoodlum den where all manner of taka taka cooks up.
He must not confuse the office and his individual self for he holds it in our collective national trust. We want to see a user friendly leader who shies away from petty controversies and tolerates divergent opinion. I expected the DP, nay William, to downplay the little storm that Gov Isaac Kiprono Rutto had raised, use the occasion to calm his followers, propaganda the ideals of democracy and proceed with the fund raiser. But what I saw yesterday was a sight of a man thirsty for incitement. He himself went into a frenzy the moment he saw a microphone and an already burning crowd.
Am beginning to question the much sold theory of youthful leadership if all it offer is Kalongolongo politics that has the propensity of burning the country. Ruto and Ruto’s followers are now locked in juvenile supremacy battles, each side claiming their daddy can kick the others posterior so hard from Bomet to Eldoret and vice versa. Would you believe it?
Wisdom must prevail on Ruto if really the bwana he often says asifiwe lives in him.
