Yesterday during a function in CORD Leader Raila Odinga’s rural backyard of Bondo Deputy President William Samoei Ruto continued his disdainful assault on CORD co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka telling Raila to drop the former vice president in 2017 because he will still beat him.
First, it is not the Deputy President to set for us the 2017 CORD line up. This is something official opposition should be categorical about. When the Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka came to CORD, it was after the same DP Ruto, together with then candidate Uhuru Kenyatta, in a purely ethnic equation, had determined that he, Kalonzo, was not worth the then G7 ticket.
The coalition that Hon. Odinga and Hon. Kalonzo formed and christened a coalition of reforms and democracy endured this perception that Kalonzo was contributing nothing substantial and came close to clinching power, forcing them to rig the 2013 elections.
The Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka has remained steadfastly principled in CORD. All attempts to make him bolt out of the coalition has floundered. Their attempt to buy him flopped even before they quoted their first buying price. It is in the backdrop of this desperation that they have since coined a new strategy – to downplay, disdainfully, the significance of Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka in CORD.
This new strategy seeks to dismantle the opposition by stoking anger, hatred and despondency among its top leaders. It must not work.
Hon. Odinga and Hon. Musyoka started their campaigns a few months to election. The Deputy President and President Uhuru, then indictees of crimes against humanity, begun their campaigns at least two years to the election.
Their campaigns, which Kalonzo played a significant role in, and wasted much resources, before being told he is ‘unfit to lead’, polarized the country and turned our beautiful nation into ethnic enclaves.
They told their communities that it was Odinga who fixed them at the Hague, not their murderous crimes.  Raila and his then ODM loyalists tried in parliament to set a local tribunal to try those who were in the Ocampo list long before the envelop was opened but to no avail. Kalonzo moved around the world trying to rescue the two after their names were found in the Ocampo envelop.
Each ‘prayer rally’ was filled with hate and name-dropping. They clouded the minds of their communities with pure evil, and made all kinds of mummifying allegations of what would happen to them and their communities in an Odinga-Musyoka Presidency, not what they would do to the people. It is no wonder two years into power and nothing to show for the time.
All these initiatives came to naught with the arrogance and ethnic machinations of the two. Now they are approaching another election with no significant achievement. Once again, they are resorting to ethnic mobilization.
The Hon. Kalonzo Musyoka is not in CORD as a guest. He was not welcomed in CORD. He founded it. We supporters of CORD understand this and are comfortable with it.
DP Ruto is the least ‘specialist’ to tell CORD who should be on its ticket and who shouldn’t.
