The grand entry of Asaka Nyangara has sent all candidates scampering helter skelter sieving pretenders to the throne from real contestants. They have thence been overheard palavering in melancholic tones “why Asaka’s 2017 Kisumu county governor sparking excitement and anxiety among political class and citizenry of the very county.â€
For beginners; Asaka Nyangara is a son of soil from Nyakach. A man of great toils whose exploits have gone into touching lives vertically and horizontally within the lengths and breadth of Kisumu County and beyond. A current employee of UN WFP in Philippines with unparalleled networks, experience and exposure beyond all gladiators in the race to jump start Kisumu into a Great lakes commercial epicenter—Singapore, Las Vegas or Dubai of sorts. A publicity shy Investor per excellence in real estate and farming. In preindustrial Japan, Asaka could be an embodiment of Japanese masterstroke strategy called J-I-T (Just in time). His candidacy is just ON TIME.
A man whose past life is dotted with vicious fights for social justice right from his varsity days at UON Chiromo campus, where he immensely aided in the struggle for multipartism and second liberation. Today, he looks at his scars of the struggle and walk tall; proud to be part and parcel of our true yearnings and aspirations.
A cursory glance into his up-coming manifesto which can’t be dissected fully for fear of idea thieves, reveals a man with great zeal for Kisumu’s socio-economic uptake. Asaka is pained by the mediocre, clueless, rudderless leadership of the current county government that he weeps at the state of indifference, neglect and corruption.
Where are their vision, mission and ambition? They are buying more diapers to ensure Kisumu doesn’t grow out of infancy; they have become devils agents grinding every sector to a halt including successful failure to harness the Int’ airport to spur local economic activities. It beats the mind that fish is a sign of middle class within Kisumu, a great paradox to a county resting on the belly of the largest fresh water lake in Africa and second largest in the world. Eggs and Milk consumed in Kisumu comes from Kampala despite the rich arable lands lying fallow, and hard efforts by SME’s and subsistent farmers to try mitigate the gap—they are simply neglected & their efforts left to the winds. Insecurity is a living nightmare; cost of food is headed for a plague. Unplanned developments, unsorted garbage with potential to generate energy are among the many sins of the current regime whose actions and inactions by omission or commission have contributed fully to degeneration of Kisumu.
In Asaka’s speak; an office of ombudsman will go a long way in covering whistleblowers that unearth economic terrorists. A milk processor will be built, a huge fish processor too, countless fishponds to increase production and enough stock to run the processor to full capacity when the lake is closed for fish breeding. A reinvigoration of sugar sector, expeditious uplift of roads to open farms access to markets, a social center in every ward to promote talent, working with SSMB through PPP to bring Kisumu stadium to international standards, an ambulance meeting international standards in every ward, more than 50 police vehicles to patrol Kisumu city’s thug prone areas and yes, liaise with WFP among other UN agencies in giving nutritional rations free to mothers in pre-and post natal care to encourage them use health facilities among other illustrative few.
A God fearing, who believes God made man to subdue the earth with progress. A gentleman per se, down to earth, folksy, and approachable good listener is but qualities that define Asaka Nyangara; who represents change over continuity in the current DEPLORABLE state of affairs in Kisumu County.
Maybe just maybe, his spotlessly rich features are the reason his opponents are locked in a futile search of what to smear him.
