Afande Eric Kiraithe appointed Govt Spokesperson. His appointment is the culmination of spirited efforts by a faction of PSCU Directors who have been running a parallel communication structure within the presidency.
Most analysts believe that this cabal of insiders have gotten their way in undercutting Manoah Esipisu with the appointment of Afande Eric Kiraithe. TNA bloggers among them Kirinyaga politician and former journalist Josiah Murigu have been spamming the social media with claims that the agenda and achievements of the Uhuru presidency haven’t been well communicated, sometimes arguing that CORD communication juggernaut has been upstaging Jubilee, and attributing that to manoa.
Its against this backdrop that multiple analysts believe that Kiraithe’s elevation is the culmination of mediocrity prevailing over decency and professionalism. Mwenye kukufukuza hakuambii nenda, and this may be the introduction of an “Uhuru spokesperson” through the backdoor, without annoying the ingwe.
Kiraithe is most likely to be amiable and user friendly to the mafia and supremacists around the presidency. GEMA mutant The Mt. Kenya Foundation has been pushing Uhuru to give his political base of Central, a sense and feel of ownership of the government. There’s no better boost to the diminishing self esteem of TNA supporters than having Mr. Kiraithe, a son of the President’s backyard appearing on TV everyday to espouse the Jubilee agenda.
Why Afande? The answer is in the timing. 1 year before elections, and going by the Malindi and Kericho by elections, we are staring at a regime that is growing exceedingly jittery about its 2017 prospects. This Afande, as Former police spokesman is used to justifying the wrong’s and evils that are synonymous with Kenya’s police force.
Kiraithe’s face is synonymous with justifying(in his capacity as police spokesperson) justifying police brutality. Going into 2017, he will come in handy in explaining certain “hardball” tactics that Jubilee is expected to employ in its quest to hold onto power. Decisions like militarizing police, withdrawing security of CORD allied luminaries/state officers, deploying army officers at polling stations will all require the alacrity of a former police spokesperson.
And more importantly, he is an appointee who, as a Policeman is used to taking orders from above, meaning he is likely to report, as ordered. This is proof that the mafia and supremacists are taking nothing to chance, and is cordoning itself from a more resurgent opposition, whose voter enthusiasm and ability to overcome all manner of police brutality and state machinery to emerge victorious in Malindi under a very lean budget shocked the mafia insiders.
