Meshack Yebei gained excess notoriety in death. Â At the ICC, where DP William Ruto is fighting to save his skin from possible conviction, he became the subject of a legal tussle between Deputy President William Ruto’s defence team and the prosecution led by madam Fatou Bensouda.
Ruto, through his lead counsel Mr. Karim Khan depicted Yebei as a ‘critical’ defense witness for Mr Ruto. Sadly, the DP who is number two in the kenyan government remained mum even when his ‘critical witness’ complained formally to the police that his life was in danger. In fact, days after he disappeared, the Ruto team did not utter a word about him until his badly mutilated body was found dumped in the banks of River Yala not so far from Ruto’s rural Sugoi home.
It appears Ruto’s team perched on Yebei in death because dead men tell no tales. Attorney General Githu Muigai last week also waded into Yebei mystery, revealing that the government of Kenya was ‘not aware’ that Yebei was an ICC witness for Mr Ruto.
