Residents of Eburru village in Naivasha are now alleging that straying wild animals in the area are wrecking their marriages.
The residents mainly women say that men are leaving their matrimonial beds at night and camping on trees so as to keep the marauding animals away. As a result, the farmers have been left counting losses with fears of a looming food shortage in the area.
Over 300 residents blocked the busy Naivasha-Eburru road in protest, saying they have resorted to digging trenches to keep off the animals.
The demonstrators complained of increased invasions by buffaloes which according to them had injured several people and affected learning in various schools. According to one of the women, Philemona Njoki, the men were no longer sleeping in their homes as they spend the night perched on trees guarding their farms.
