In what may be an end to URP Party, President Uhuru’s allies have formed a single party to replace the jubilee alliance coalition.
The Party, named Jubilee Alliance Party, borrows the logo of TNA (dove), URP (horn) and the horse for Najib Balala’s Republican Congress. Unlike the current coalition arrangement, the Jubilee party shall be one as constituent parties will be dissolved.
However, allies of Deputy President William Ruto are reportedly opposed to the single party as it will not be automatic who gets the nomination as TNA has made inroads in the Rift Valley and KANU under former President Daniel Moi’s son, Gideon, also remains a formidable political unit.
Observers point to the fact that KANU got more seats in 2013 than it did in 2007, and that many people have started looking at alternative leaders beyond William Ruto, with south Rift angling towards Bomet governor Isaac Rutto while at least two north rift counties under tight grip of Gideon Moi, that is, Baringo and West Pokot.
Ruto remains a kingpin in Nandi, Uasin Gishu and Elgeyo Marakwet.
The formation of the new party also come in the background of a secretive meeting between President Uhuru and former President Daniel Moi. Handlers of President Uhuru are looking beyond William Ruto as Deputy, and many have openly revealed so.
