Mama Joanne Argwings, the wife of the late Argwings Kodhek, died at 2am on Tuesday at The Nairobi Hospital, where she had been admitted. Family and friends had made an urgent and desperate appeal for blood donation over the weekend in a bid to save her life.
Many turned up to honour the appeal to donate the type O+ blood for the wife of Kenya’s first indigenous lawyer and first MP for Gem constituency Mr Charles Michael George (CMG) Argwings Kodhek: Kenya’s first African Barrister, the UK-trained lawyer, was MP for Gem and Foreign Affairs minister.
Mr Kodhek died in 1969 in a road accident on what is now Argwings Kodhek Road, named after him.
He was killed in a suspicious motor accident in the upmarket Kilimani area along a road that now bears his name.
HERE is an extract from the Wikipendia page: A posthumous exhumation suggests that this is not an accident but an intentional homicide . The records gathered and held by the family of CMG indicate that investigators Minister Paul Ngei (in) were able to identify a police vehicle belonging to escort the Vice President Daniel Arap Moi and carrying the shooters. Andrew Omanga, former Secretary of Argwings Kodhe says, meanwhile, that GMC told him before he died, he has “suffered a shock and he heard a shot.”
Then Attorney General Charles Njonjo confirmed to Parliament that CMG’s body had wounds consistent with bullet holes.
He is remembered for his role in representing and defending Mau Mau freedom fighters during the colonial times. He hailed from Nyawara, Gem, in Siaya County.
Family and friends thanked all those who responded to the call for help, as they announced her demise.
“…Turnout was massive, just massive. So many people were willing to donate blood, we had to turn some away,†indicated a message from the Kodhek family tweeted on Sunday. She had gone through an operation and her family had assured friends and relatives that everything was well.
