Columnist Mutuma Mathiu has urged President Uhuru to stop wasting the country’s meagre resources. Here is his post:
I don’t want to be negative, but here is a thing. There are two radiotherapy machines in public hospitals in Kenya, both at Kenyatta. Each is supposed to treat about 50 patients a day, but they have to be pushed to do 150 a day because of the long queue of desperate patients waiting. 1000 are actually booked for 2016.
If a patient does not get 30 days of continuous treatment, they will probably die. Kenyatta needs 10 machines to save the lives of tens of thousands of cancer patients every year. Rather than giving a million dollars for an African court that other African countries don’t seem to want, why not buy these machines and save the lives of our people?
