Former President Mwai Kibaki who retired as head of state in 2013 is not considered worthy of the USD 5 Million Mo Ibrahim Prize for Achievement in African Leadership (IIAG).
Much to the disappointment of proud Kenyans, two of their retired presidents, Moi and Kibaki, have been persistently overlooked in the criteria for awarding this prestigious award which applies to retired heads of state and government.
Only South Africa’s Mandela, Botswana’s Festus Mogae, Mozambique’s Joachim Chissano and Cape Verde’s Pires have won this award which consists of the world’s highest price of US$5 million paid over ten years and US$200 000 per year for life thereafter.
