Lecturers from a local university raided the institution’s food stores and looted cooked food meant for students. The dons from Mombasa Technical University, formerly Mombasa Polytechnic, Â forced their way into the kitchen, chased away cooks and gluttonously descended on the ready delicacies.
Among the foodstuffs looted by the dons included chapatis, dengu, chips, smokies, sukuma wiki and kachumbari. After the feast, students from the coastal institution were left a hungry lot, forcing the university to hurriedly issue a closing down of the institution memo to avert a potential clash between the hungry students and the angry lecturers demanding wages.
Now a section of university students are warning their instructors to restrict their pay demands to legally allowed practices, saying looting canteens and food stores meant to serve students will be ‘opposed amicably’.
The students who spoke ‘on condition of anonymity’ said lecturers should be the last people to raid food stores as such shameful displays will be imitated by students ‘when the time comes’.
Learning has been paralysed in most public universities as the lecturers strike enters week two.
