Irungu Kang’ata is the latest victim in the ongoing purge of rebels in Jubilee party.

Kang’ata was ousted as Majority Whip in a meeting chaired by Secretary-General Raphael Tuju on behalf on the party leader President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Kiambu Senator Kimani Wamatangi has been appointed to replace Kang’ata in the increasingly volatile leadership positions in Parliament.

Speaking after the meeting, Tuju dismissed claims that Kang’ata had been ejected because of his letter to President Uhuru Kenyatta over the popularity of the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) in central Kenya.
“Kang’ata’s biggest problem is that he kisses and tells, you can have an internal confidential meeting only for him to discuss with other third parties, you should never kiss and tell. Tuju said.

Tuju said the leadership of the party and of the Senate could no longer trust Kang’ata with confidential information and so he had to be ejected.

However, members of Tangatanga faction in the Senate protested the decision and said the party did not acquire the necessary number to eject Kang’ata.

“Why didn’t the President turn up as expected? The truth is that they required 20 senators and they only had 15, we know they will cook numbers like they did last time,” charged Kipchumba Murkomen, the Elgeyo Marakwet Senator.

On his part, Kang’ata regretted the party taking action on him because of the letter he wrote although he insisted he will stand by the truth.

“The truth shall set you free, what I wrote in the letter was the truth, and I stand by it, I didn’t insult anyone, in fact I was giving solutions, I don’t regret writing that letter,” he said.
