BREAKING: POLICE TEAR GAS parents protesting high fees near Ministry of Education HQs

BREAKING: POLICE TEAR GAS parents protesting high fees near Ministry of Education HQs

February 4, 2015

Parents in Nairobi protesting school fee were yesterday bombed with teargas as government heightened its war on school going children.

The parents, led by Elimu Yetu Coalition, a non-governmental organization, were teargassed as they picketed towards the ministry of education offices.

The parents, protesting increase in fee as high as sh 120,000 in some schools, had camped outside Jogoo House – the workplace of Education cabinet secretary Jacob Kaimenyi – when government police stormed the place and, using teargas, violently dispersed them.

This is the second time the government is punishing players in education sector after protecting a land grabber who fenced Lang’ata Primary school playground. School children who faced off with the grabber were teargassed by government police, drawing international outrage from human rights organizations.
