President Uhuru’s flamboyant cousin Mike Gachecha died in a grisly road accident along Thika Road on saturday. Those who know Mike say he was a jovial, outgoing fellow who bought booze to his friends, many from all parts of the country.
However, many may not know that he is a beneficiary of a whole estate in Nairobi curved out of Baba Dogo.
His father, Peter Gathecha, uncle to Uhuru and in-law to Jomo Kenyatta was awarded a huge tract of land by Jomo for being an in law. This land, between Kasarani stadium and Kayole, made the Gachecha’s one of the largest land owners and wealthiest families in Kenya.
The prime city land now rests Lucky Summer estate, which forms its on Ward with an elected county assembly member.
Gathecha may not be a household name, but he was quite known in the party scenes. He was the owner of the popular Juja Capital Centre – a restaurant, bar, lounge and tyre centre, among other businesses. He is also believed to have friends and business partners in high political offices.
