MY TAKE ON PRESIDENT KENYATTA’S JUST CONCLUDED PRESS CONFERENCE
I applaud president Kenyatta for the sophisticated responses he gave to questions he was asked by some two foreign journalists in the just concluded live press conference at statehouse. I like smartness and whenever one displays it, I pat their back. So, on this, despite goofing severally, Uhuru wins my rare and valuable accolade. This however shouldn’t be misconstrued to mean that I approve of his government.
One was on homosexuality. The foreign journalist, whom I didn’t “catch” his name wanted to know what will be the government’s response in case POTUS raises the gay agendea during his visit.
Uhuru gave a shrewd response without mumbling, stating clearly that Kenya and Africa at large have more biting problems that need to be debated and the issue of homosexuality comes nowhere close. On a question asked by Mr. Smith of The Guardian, US, where he sought to know what is important to Kenya as the president will be having a bilateral talk between Kenya and the US, trade or security. Uhuru said that the two are inseparable. Trade needs a secure environment, period!
On whether Ruto will meet president Obama, he said that POTUS will be meeting the government of Kenya and Ruto is a significant figure of the Kenyan gov’t. I saw Ruto smile.
This is ok only that the press conference should have included the opposition. Uhuru should also engage Raila, Kalonzo and Wetangula in major preparations to show unity of our nation unless Obama ni ya mama ya serikali. Aren’t we one?? Another point to note, I think the president should stop responding to questions asked in swahili because it seems he has a problem with this language.
And lastly, a question to my readers, what is “doing” DP William Ruto? He looks thin like a desert lizard!
I rest my case.
