Students organization of Nairobi University will hold their internal polls tomorrow. Here are top five names to watch as East Africa’s biggest students union heads to the ballot.
1. Babu Owino
A former Chairman of Sonu. Babu is a controversial student leader whose ruthless handling of the central police station officers ensured that the Nairobi OCS always first contacted him even before arrests are made. Now a law student, Babu got first to the helm of Sonu three years ago. He graduated with First class honours in Acturial Science and doing his second degree in Law.
Babu’s runningmate is Irene Kendi.
2. JN Kariuki
JN is little known in UoN but has crafted a Jubilee alliance of sorts having picked a Kalenjin as his runningmate. If politics goes purely tribal, JN will be had to topple. Among other known facts about him is that he is a consumate Konyagi alchol drinker and is being funded by Simon Mbugua, a former city MP.
3. Philbert Kongola.
A former speaker of the Sonu parliament. Philbert is seen to be a pro-admin comrade in whose ‘safe pair of hands’ the interests of admin (VC Prof George Magoha and DVC Prof Mbeche) will be taken care of.
4. Edith Mwirigi
Edith is the immediate former Secretary General of Sonu. She is the running-mate of Philbert Kongola.
5. Akatch Jim
Akatch, a law student, is gunning for Secretary General. His main competitor is Dan Koech.
