Thika Road drivers and touts out on Ksh. 25 million bond paid by Sonko

Thika Road drivers and touts out on Ksh. 25 million bond paid by Sonko

May 10, 2014

In another Mike Sonko style of leadership where and when it is needed, the drivers and touts who had been arrested and each slapped with a whooping Ksh 5 million bond and surety of similar amounts are out of the cold cells.

The 2 drivers and 3 touts were arresting for failure to prevent a crime after their buses was blown up by grenades last Sunday. The charge outraged many Kenyans who felt it was punitive and the bail money out of reach of the poor youths.

Their arrest had led to Githurai matatu operators staging protests to show solidarity with their colleagues and against the charges the prosecution had levelled.

In the company of Ruiru Mp, Hon. Easter Gathogo at the Makadara law courts, Hon Sonko and the legislator  fully settled that bond that amounted to 25million shillings: 5 million each for Robert Gakuru Kibe- driver; Joshua Wambugu Mwangi- driver; Geoffrey Mwangi Gakunga- conductor; Anthony Mutua Masila- conductor; James Miring’u Munene- conductor.

It is also emerging that the DPP Keriako Tobiko has filed to dismissed cases against the five which would take at least three weeks during which the five were still to be held in jail.

“The police are mandated by law to ensure security and not drivers & conductors. You don’t expect a male conductor to search a woman. I also donated free metal detectors to assist operators screen passengers before they board PSV’s” Sonko said.

Sonko also revealed he will push for a law to remove the tinted windows from most vehicles, especially private vehicles and PSV taxis.

“I will also push for all public & VIP vehicles including mine and taxis with tinted windows to remove the tints. We have been very reluctant to enforce the law banning tinted vehicle windows. This has contributed greatly to the rise of crime in the country.  Be watchful wherever you are and report any suspicion to the police. PEACE watu wangu”.

Is this another show-off by Sonko? Do you think the man is real or a pretender? How do you politically interpret this man Sonko with Nairobi 2017 gubernatorial race?
