This morning, a Matatu carrying passengers from Kiamokama en-route to Kisii Town was involved in a grisly accident that has left eight people dead and 16 others injured.
The accident occurred at around midday near Kisii School along the busy Kisii-Keroka road. Four men, three females and one child are among the dead. Some of the casualties include parents who were attending the Kisii School’s visiting day.
While the cause of the accident is not clear, I have already asked police to urgently investigate the cause of this grisly accident. I call upon motorists to exercise caution while using our roads to avoid losing innocent lives.
A total of 16 people are admitted at the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital undergoing treatment while the bodies of the deceased are lying the hospital’s mortuary. I thank members of the public and Kenya Red Cross Society who volunteered to help the injured.
I stand with the families of those who lost their lives and extend every Kisii County resident’s sympathies. To those who were injured, I wish you a quick recovery.
My Government will ensure they get the necessary medical attention to aid their recovery. We shall also sit with the affected families and discuss ways of assisting them through this difficult moment.
God bless you.
