As the outrage of Ambassador Jean Njeri Kamau’s snub of the former PM Raila Odinga continue among the country’s diaspora community, Kenya Today can now reveal more shocking actions of the country’s top envoy which were aimed at embarrassing the ex-prime minister.
Just before the Boston Marathon last weekend, Amb. Kamau wrote a formal complaint to the organizers to not allow Odinga to receive ‘Kenya runners’ at the finish line. When this request was disregarded, grudgingly, the ambassador joined cabinet secretary for sports Mr. Hassan Wario and the PM on the marathon day where Rita Jeptoo, Wilson Chebet and Frankline Chepkwony made the country proud by winning various titles.
Earlier, the elite athletes held a function where the PM offered his fatherly encouragement, characteristically narrating the history of athletics in Kenya. Mr Sammy Maina, a kenyan who has played co-host to Mr Odinga, posted the former PM’s speech (watch here) in which he promised the kenyan team he would be on the finish to cheer them to victory.
However, after the Marathon, both the PM, Kenya’s ambassador Jean Kamau and other delegations were to attend an annual event ‘Diner with Champions’. Kamau stayed away, as were several diplomatic functionaries in the Kenya Mission.
In the whole trip of the former PM, the Jubilee Alliance government has worked round the clock to diminish the significance and importance of the trip, including using their stranglehold in parliament to debate the tour.
The ambassador’s actions, taken into a befitting context, only shows how President Uhuru’s government are abysmal winners, stuck in pre-election campaign mode where the former prime minister was a devil incarnate – accept and move on Jubilee!
