One of the ODM MPs who camped at the Hague with Deputy President William Ruto and dared the party to ‘expel’ him as thrown his weight in the forthcoming party elections in February.
Tigania East MP Mpuru Aburi, nicknamed ‘Raila Odinga twin brother’, because he resembles the former PM, Â has shown interest in the position of ODM National Chairman, to replace the current office holder and former Tindiret MP Henry Kosgey. Already, he has applied for the seat.
But Aburi had in recent times shown political disconnect with the party that sponsored him to parliament, claiming ‘if you can’t beat them join them’ when he pledged to work with the Jubilee government alongside another Meru ODM legislator, Kubai Kiringo of Igembe Central.
“There is a time for politics and development, this is the time for development and we do not need to keep singing ODM, ODM,ODM whereas we were defeated, If you cant beat them, join them and that’s why I decided to work with the government and attain development for my people”, Aburi said at a fundraising in Meru in a meeting that Ruto was the Chief Guest.
Since the Ruto event, Aburi has been the talk of other members of parliament with revelations that he has secretly bought a chopper, joining the exclusive club of a few wealthy politicians with means and ‘air’ ways. However, the MP, save for the short dalliance with Ruto, has been Raila Odinga’s pointman in Mt. Kenya region since 1992 when he joined elective politics.
Sometime in 2005, Aburi’s love for fine things in life led him to buy his wife a Bentley as birthday gift.
The true intention of Aburi will be seen after the election though a source who has keenly followed his recent moves intimated to this writer that he(Aburi) may be on the payroll of the ex-ODM deputy president to meddle in ODM polls for potential pay-offs when he is beaten and pours blame on the party.
Keep it here for ODM poll politics.
