President Uhuru Kenyatta has appointed the wife of Attorney General Githu Muigai as a high court judge. Githu’s wife, Margaret Waringa Muigai was among the controversial 10 judge list appointed by the president after several months in waiting. Githu Muigai’s role as ‘Friend of the Court’ – Amicus Curiae – is still fresh in people’s minds, including the President.
Mrs Muigai was appointed alongside Charles Kariuki Mutungi, Anthony Charo Mrima, Janet Nzilani Mulwa, Crispin Beda Nagillah and Farah Amin Shaikh Mohamed. Others included Justus Momanyi Bwonwong’a, Joseph Louis Omondi Onguto, Roselyne Ekirapa Aburill, Enock Chacha Mwita and Robert Kipkoech Limo.
Judicial Service Commission has protested the appointments whci left out 14 other judges from the JSC list of 25 people who were to be appointed. It is interesting that Uhuru calimed he was not “yet decided” on the fate of succeful candidates for judgeship who had been selected and approved by the judges employing authority – the judicial service commission.
The rejected judges-designate includes the affable magistrate Waweru Kiarie.
Others are Olga Akech Sewe, Stephen Riech, Patrick Otieno Okwaro, Winfrida Adhiambo Okwany, Anthony Kimani Ndung’u, and Mugure Thande.
Also waiting for Uhuru to “make up his mind” are Margaret Njoki Mwangi Githinji Stephen Murugu, Dorah O. Chepkwony, Ongeri Asenath Nyaboke, Njuguna Lucy Mwihaki and Mativo Mutinga John.
