SHOCK as UNIVERSITY STUDENTS Swim in Dirty river water for lack of a SWIMMING POOL

October 6, 2013

A group of seven fourth year students shocked their fellows when, for lack of a swimming pool, decided to swim in a river  near the institution. The students from Eldoret based Moi University went to a favourite weekend spot of the river which is a kilometre away from their hostels and, despite the healthy risks of water diseases, plunged in the brown water for a swim.

When fellow students began blaming their conduct as ‘unbecoming’, the students, two females and five males, claimed they were having fun.

Moi University, like most institutions in the region, do not have a swimming pool where students can use for swim. A student who agreed to speak on condition of anonymity revealed that swimming pool is one of the issues students leaders often promise to deliver but it seems the university administration has never taken it seriously.

“Most students here go to Sirikwa (hotel) to swim during weekends but this is expensive considering fare alone is Ksh 200 then other expenses in town like lunch and stuff. . .a better way would be to build one here in Main Campus,” said the student.
