SHOCK: Uhuru’s new appointee at Geothermal corporation already involved in scandal

SHOCK: Uhuru’s new appointee at Geothermal corporation already involved in scandal

May 18, 2015 Leave a Comment

Barely a month after Geothermal Development Company (GDC) Managing Director, Silas Simiyu stepped down from his position over corruption allegations, another mega scandal seems to be brewing in the company.

While acting on President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive, GDC Board Chairman Faisal Abbas appointed and Mr Godwin Mwawongo in an acting capacity as the Managing Director since Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission was already investigating Dr. Silas Simiyu.

The changes at the Geothermal Development Company has also seen Mr. Garishon Otachi become the new Chairman.

However, it appears that Simiyu’s exit from the helm of Geothermal Company might have just opened a gateway for more corrupt deals to flow in and out untamed.

This time, it is alleged that the cutting-edge scandal has been presided over by the newly appointed Chairman, Mr. Gerishon Otachi.

According to a letter in our possession, Mrs. Ruth Wavinya Musembi, GDC’s Corporate Communication and Marketing Manager, tendered her resignation on 16th March 2015 and was to leave the company on 30th April 2015. It’s alleged by insiders that Mrs. Wavinya proffered her resignation – hoping that the former MD, Silas Simiyu would entice her back to work with ‘untold benefits’.

Against Wavinya’s expectation, members of the Geothermal Development Company conducted a celebratory event in which her effort to the company was highly appreciated. As it was supposed to be, Wavinya left GDC on 30th May 2015 – with all her outstanding dues.

Mrs. Ruth Wavinya Musembi had been the head of Communication and Marketing at GDC up until when she resigned, but in between, she allegedly made several desperate attempts to revoke her resignation. This move is reported to have been vehemently opposed by the Company Legal Team, Human Resource Director and the Ag. Managing Director, Mr. Godwin Mwawongo.

“That is an illegality. You cannot resign and then want to return to your employer as you wish. GDC is a public institution guided by the laws and has its own policies. We could not allow that,” said a top level manager who did not want to be named.

There are reports that Wavinya was quoted saying that she is not going anywhere as long as Faisal, Otachi and the new board members are backing her. She is said to have the sweet flair of friendship from Paul Gondi, all the way to Mr. Otachi.

True to her assertions, Ruth Wavinya resurfaced on 7th May 2015 at the GDC under mysterious circumstances.

“She was called by Abbas and introduced to Mr. Otachi. Otachi, in contravention of all know human resource practices, allowed her back to the office,” said a source close to the management.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission and the Parliamentary Committee on Public Investment have so far been accused of not investigating an alleged multimillion-shilling scandal at the Geothermal Generation Company and the rampant flouts of law like in the case of Ruth Wavinya.

Going by constitutional provisions on Kenya’s Labour policies, Ruth Wavinya is a stranger to GDC since does not even have a letter of recall. HR: 0717722859 MD: 0722586011
