Former National Assembly Speaker Kenneth Marende is embroiled in a nasty child-upkeep court battle with a Rongai  woman.
The Rongai woman now demands Kenneth Marende to pay Ksh 400,000 as upkeep for her and a girl he sired ‘while on duty’ as the national assembly speaker.
Earlier, a magistrate had ordered Marende to pay Ksh103, 000 as school fee for the girl staying with her mother as well as rent and medical insurance. Marende had stopped taking care of the baby in Nov 2013, prompting the woman to seek legal redress.
Using parliamentray medical scheme, Marende, then speaker, put the girl under medical cover and took her to an international school. He also moved the woman from Rongai to a four-bedroomed house in Lavington.
Even as Marende made these arrangements, politically, he was doing nothing to ensure he remains a Solomonic Speaker with the post’s attendant pecks. In the run up to the last general elections, Marende refused to appear in the campaign trail of CORD.
This he did despite the political cost of crowning him as speaker by ODM after the 2007 post-election violence.
Most ODM supporters have not forgiven Marende, who failed to use his exalted position to vigorously campaign for Odinga, despite being propped up for speakership by Odinga in 2007, a time he hurriedly changed and became Kibaki’s (PNU) gate-keeper in parliament.
It seems, with this case, Kenyans are having the initial preview of the lewd past of a man who – until he chose to play safe – was being seen as possible alternative candidate for the opposition in the next election.
Recently, Marende declined to vie in one of the many posts in ODM, claiming he was waiting for a government appointment. Now, at least, Kenyans know why he really needs a job – to take care of his conjugal excesses – hahahahaha.
