A resurgent Mungiki gang is alleged to be behind the killings of sex workers in Nakuru. Residents of the town accuse the police of complicity, saying some of those killed may not even be ‘prostitutes’.
The victims had their private parts mutilated  and eyes gouged out in what locals believe is more than opportunistic killing but may be satisfying a gang’s ritual. Their bodies have since been moved to mortuaries awaiting their families to come and collect them for burial.
Recently, Bahati MP Ngunjiri Kimani called on the national government to reign in on the new gang. However, Nakuru governor Kinuthia Mbugua is alleged to have used the gangs to help control touts and traffic in the city.
There are fears that the gang is being assembled for 2017 politics.
