NAIROBI Senator Mike Sonko has denied claims that he has reached a deal with Governor Evans Kidero to shift base to his ancestral home in Machakos County and overthrow Governor Alfred Mutua. Sonko was overheard telling his fellow graduands at KEMU during his graduation last week that he will not move his political base from Nairobi to Machakos as claimed by his opponents.
Sonko is said to have promised his KEMU colleagues including former Kamkunji MP Simon Mbugua that he will first focus on service to delivery to the great people of Nairobi then when time reaches he’ll not relent on his quest to topple Kidero from City Hall.
On Sunday Sonko caused a stir in Machakos Town when he checked in at a supermarket for shopping with his family. A large crowd of Machakos residents milled around the Supermarket to catch a glimpse of the flamboyant Senator who was accompanied with his lovely daughter and media friendly Saumu Mbuvi. Sonko used the opportunity to pay bills for over 100 students from various schools who were shopping at the supermarket.
The move by Sonko to shop in Machakos has now been used by his political rivals who now claim that Sonko will run for the Machakos Gubernatorial seat on Cord ticket and leave Kidero to clinch the Nairobi seat. According to sources Sonko has vowed to remain loyal to President Uhuru Kenyatta and fight for the Jubilee Governors nominations.
