Investigation by Public Service Commission (PSC) has revealed massive rot in government wage bill with under-age children of senior government officials on state payroll.
This mega salary scam has seen the government lose sh 2 billion annually. The number of these under 18 year olds number 500 persons, mostly children and relatives of senior government employees.
The scam also involves ghost workers, dead workers and retirees, who still earn salary as if they are at work. Documented ghost workers number at least 4,674 and another 10,280 employee records are suspicious, PSC reveals. Some 1,628 ’employees’ draw salaries and allowances, despite having retired.
Again, some 2,546 people, including those who have retired or died, continue to draw salaries.
The report was prepared by the Inter-Governmental Steering Committee for the Capacity Assessment and Rationalization of the Public Service programme.
