Radical cleric Sheik Abubakar Makaburi’s shooting was not a surprise, many beleive he invited the bullet. He openly supported Alshabaab activities in the country and the radicalization of the youth in Mombasa. He advocated for the attack of foreign nationals in Kenya saying the Western world was behind the extra judicial killings of Muslims in Kenya.
Sheik Makaburi was shot dead by unknown assailants not very far from where his friend and comrade Sheik Aboud Rogo was assassinated.
Last year Makaburi told the press that his life was in danger after the US blacklisted him and a Garissa-based NGO.
Sheik Makaburi told the press that his assets were frozen, four days after the Westgate attack that led to the death of more than 100 people including president Uhuru Kenyatta’s nephew.
The radical cleric however denied any involvement in the Westgate attack and instead urged the government not to execute him “I urge the government not follow the US and Israel blindly in violating Muslim rights through extral judicial killing of suspects. It is contrary to the new constitution,” he said
Here are two controversial interviews that might have accelerated his elimination.
