Cord Leader and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga will unveil the Mau Mau statute at Uhuru Park Freedom Corner today.

The younger Odinga will witness the first commemoration of Kenya’s bloody war of independence at a time the history of Mau Mau, a national movement which involved all ethnicities, has increasingly become a Kikuyu affair.

The statues are meant to serve as reconciliatory commemorative remembrances of the Mau Mau uprising and victims of torture by the British colonial government.

During his time as Prime Minister, Hon Odinga successfully lobbied British PM David Cameron for an out-of-court settlement for Mau Mau survivors culminating in a record Ksh.2.6 billion payout by the British Government to  Kenyans.
