‘Management Consultant’ and immediate former head of Raila Odinga campaign secretariat Eliud Owalo this afternoon resigned from his position as Raila Odinga’s political strategist, a move which excited supporters of the ODM leader who often accused Owalo of sinking the 2013 ODM/CORD campaigns.
The ODM/CORD campaigns of 2013 was conducted with lethargy and slowness which made the Jubilee Alliance christen the coalition as “analogue”. Owalo was the head of this analogue machine.
While the role of Owalo, who was based at Raila Odinga Secretariat, has often come under sharp focus since the CORD team lost the 2013 general elections, it is his exit today which generated more heat.
Owalo, while quitting, singled out the interferences by minority whip Hon Jakoyo Midiwo, whom referred to in his letter to Raila as ‘your cousin Jakoyo’. He claimed he wanted to give Jakoyo his space around Odinga.
“Consequently, after a lot of soul-searching and with the specific intention of creating room for Jakoyo and his ilk; I have decided to withdraw my services to the CORD coalition and its leadership with immediate effect,” reads the letter, in part.
A supporter, charmed by the news, termed it ‘good riddance to bad rubbish’.
One said, “Luo professionals around Raila are strange beings. From Miguna to Owallo are just too proud to excite political passion. Most of them are larger than Raila himself, pretend to know it all and hijack the most important and free advice from his supporters. Raila was more powerful when people would call and speak to him directly”.
Another plainly told Owalo he was a good-for-nothing fellow who sunk Odinga’s campaign machine with strategies which could not get even a councillor elected in a remote place like Mogotio or Moiben!
Yet, to others, the exit of Owalo, while not an issue, only disappointed them owing to the strong and unprofessional language Owalo had used while addressing a man who had trusted him with a political duty of a life time – delivering the presidency.
Yes, it is known that people around Raila have this superiority complex around them. These, especially the relatives, often have this filial selfishness known only to the vulture or hyena family: Raila Odinga, at best, has often been first and foremost for their gains, then to the whole country.
Owalo may have been correct to be angered by persistence attacks from Jakoyo Midiwo (Raila’s cousin) who also recently allegedly complained about being taken for granted by Oburu Oginga (Raila’s brother), however, at what point do you address your boss personal (family) issues touching on your job?
By venting his Midiwo frustrations on an official resignation letter to Odinga, Owalo proved beyond doubt the charges against him by a host of CORD/ODM supporters: He did not deserve it. He was just another management quack around Odinga.
