ODM Director of Elections Junet Mohammed, also the Suna East MP, has held talks with the Somali community in Kajidao on a campaign stop over for ODM candidate Elijah Memusi.
Hon Junet who earlier in the week held a successful fundraiser and resource mobilization for the ODM candidate told the gathering the election is extremely important for the Orange Party, as their competitors are only bent on reducing the opposition’s parliamentary strength.
Junet is accompanied by Hon Abdikadir Omar and Kisumu Senator Prof Peter Anyang’ Nyong’o. Also on the campaign train is ODM’S EALA legislator Judy Pareno who is the chairperson of ODM National Elections board. Pareno is a native of the constituency and was nominated to Arusha by Raila.
The somali community in Kajiado is the third largest non- local community in the region after kikuyu and kamba. The fouth are kisii and Luo/Luyha a distant sixth. It is this combination which ensued former MP John Nkaissery trounced his opponents in the 2013 elections.
Memusi is therefore likely to garner the combined kamba, somali, kisii and Luo votes, adding to the massive Maa vote he already commands.
CORD supreme Leader Raila Odinga is expected to attend a series of rallies in the area later today to drum up support for Memusi who is said to be leading in opinion polls in the area.
