ODM leader Raila Odinga will not vie in Homa Bay afterall, multiple sources close to the CORD leader have revealed.
Suna East MP Junnet Mohammed as well as the former PM’s son, Raila Odinga Junior, have all taken to Facebook to dispell the rumours that the ODM leader was considering vying in Homa Bay.
Odinga, whose political moves in Kenya are as difficult to decipher as rocket science, heightened the Homa Bay race when a section of Luo MPs started actively urging him to contest.
Confusion reigned at the CORD Secretariat and at ODM headquarters Orange House as aides and employees frantically tried to reach out to the ODM leader to reconsider his stand to go for the Homa Bay Senate seat, many revealing it would have made ‘brand Odinga’ too cheap and politically inexpensive.
Luo Elders over the weekend met the ODM leader in his rural home at Opoda where the proposal to contest the seat was raised by the visiting oldies.
Meanwhile, senate hopeful Silas Jakakimba has confirmed he will proceed with the launch of his candidature on Wednesday at Homa Bay town.
“Our team has accordingly reached out to various stakeholders in the county and set up sub-county penetrative structures even as we prepare for the official launch of our bid on Wednesday 10th December, 2014. Only yesterday, we met and gained unequivocal suppprt from the KNUT leadership of the County, led by over 78 officials from Rachuonyo, Suba and Homa-Bay branches. We remain grateful for the pledge of support we have received from the Elders, the Youth, Women Leaders, and local officials of ODM and look forward to working even closer to make Homa-Bay the County of Choice,” – Jakakimba.
