ODM Leader Raila Odinga has made a bold suggestion to counties in western Kenya to form an economic block for ten counties.
Speaking in Busia during the official opening of Busia County Investment Forum, Odinga urged the six counties of Nyanza and the four counties of western to come together and create a single economic powerhouse that will have a ready market in the over 20 million residents living in those counties.
“The 10 counties within the lake region have a huge potential. The governors should form a strategic plan like the commonwealth agenda being spearheaded by Coast governors. They should take advantage of the available market to improve their development initiatives,” advised Raila.
The investment conference with a theme dubbed ‘Transforming Busia from transit point to an international business hub’ attracted investors from Nigeria, Korea, Japan, Germany, Turkey and United States of America. The investors show-cased products and services alongside that of the county government in various sectors including agriculture, infrastructure, tourism, health and environment among others.
