Yesterday during an impromptu visit to assist residents of a fire incident in Kibra, ODM politician Eliud Owalo had his iPhone stolen by a petty thief who distracted his personal driver only to mug the man as he awaited for Mr. Owalo to return from the site of the fire.
The former aide to Prime Minister Raila Odinga made a triumphal entry into the sweltering constituency which he hopes to represent in the next parliament come 2017 elections.
Accompanied by a host of ODM local and national leaders, including Busia Women Representative Hon. Florence Mutua, Owalo donated Ksh 200,000 to the victims, several blankets, iron sheets and timber for the reconstruction of the houses of over 100 families who were rendered homeless after the fire.
President Uhuru Kenyatta also visited the constituency where youths allied to the National Youth Service are carrying our a cleaning programme to improve sanitation of the sweltering slum.
However, the cleaning programme is steeped in suspicion as residents accuse the jubilee government of employing youths from central Kenya in Kibra yet thousands of local youths remain jobless.
“It beats logic that all those youths do not live here and know very little about this place. They come here accompanied by security to clean an environment they cannot sustain its sanitation, worse they earn from it as our youths remain idle and jobless,” protested a civic leader.
It has emerged that NYS only picked four youths from Kibra to attend the programme, yet intends to send over 600 youths to the constituency.
