Nairobi women representative Rachael shebesh has suffered yet another political blow after her candidates lost heavily in the Maendeleo ya Wanawake Organization Nairobi county polls.
Shebesh had invested heavily in the MYWO grass roots elections to ensure that she dictates the national elections set for the 17th of July 2014. The heavily contested elections in the city saw women leaders allied to Nairobi Senator Mike Sonko clinch the 16 out of 17 sub county positions edging out the #TeamShebesh.
Three top women Rahab Muii, beth Kyengo and current office holder Rukia Subow will battle it out for the Chairlady’s post on the 17th of July. Contacted for comment Sonko denied that he influenced the polls and said it was a women affair and that Nairobi women have spoken for themselves by electing MYWO leaders of their choice, he further declared that he’s ready to support whoever is elected the national chairperson.
“ I will not interfere with women affairs but I will be ready to work with any leader who will be elected by the women officials of the MYWO.†said Sonko in a telephone interview.
