Top female journalists were today hosted by first lady Margret Kenyatta, hmmmm yes , they were at Statehouse again- at least not to take tea or eat chicken but for a good course.
First Lady Margaret Kenyatta had invited the top female journalists (15 in ladies) to join her for a training in readiness for the second edition of her half marathon.
The women, including managers, anchors and reporters, trained around State House, Nairobi where they later conducted an impromptu fundraiser.
They raised Sh42,000 for the Beyond Zero campaign aimed at reducing maternal and child mortality rates.
Radio Africa’s Caroline Mutoko being the senior most presented the cheque to the First Lady.
“We are almost into the last 15 days of our countdown to the second edition of the First Lady’s Half Marathon and I thank God that my training has so far been flawless,†Margaret said.
She promised to sustain the initiative “to ensure that no woman dies while giving birth”.
She took the media personalities on a tour of a beyond zero clinic, equivalent to a level four hospital, after the training.
The second edition of the First Lady’s Half Marathon, slated for March 8, will be the third event held to raise awareness and funds for the campaign.
The first edition was held in March, 2014, and Margaret participated in the London Marathon in April.
Her aim is to raise Sh600 million for the supply of fully kitted mobile clinics to the 27 remaining counties.
More than 108,000 children die before their fifth birthdays in Kenya annually.
