The Teachers Service Commission has advertised for 70,000 posts across the country, sending chills in the teaching profession whose members are out picketing.

The government last week closed all schools as the pay row with teachers drags in the court.

The Teachers Service Commission (TSC), in the circular, will recruit 50,000 primary school teachers and 20,000 secondary school teachers on a three-month contract.

“The teachers will be hired on a three-month contract and will thereafter be considered on a priority basis for employment on permanent terms when vacancies arise,” reads the letter by TSC’s chief executive officer, Nancy Macharia.

According to TSC, the 70, 000 teachers will supplement around 45,000 others who are already on duty.

Currently, there are 288,000 teachers employed by TSC.

At Last, intimidation tactics being applied. NYS being recruited in some parts to teach high school. Of course uhuru doesn’t care about quality of education. You will all wake up at 2am on election day to return him to power. By the end of the second term, NYS will b treating people at kenyatta hospital

TSC SHOULD BE WORKING OUT MEANS AND WAYS OF HARMONIZING TEACHERS’ SALARIES WITH THOSE OF TSC’S NON TEACHING STAFFS. IMAGINE A SWEEPER EARNS MORE THAN AN ATSIV TEACHER MEANING SWEEPING IS MORE TIRING THAN TEACHING.SOMETHING IS WRONG SOMEWHERE!!! WHY ARE TEACHERS TREATED VERY BADLY??? WHEN YOU HEAR PEOPLE LIKE GITHU MUIGAI FIGHTING IN COURT,IT LOOKS LIKE THEY ARE FIGHTING FOREIGNERS WHO ARE IN KENYAN PAYROLL ILLEGALLY!!! ARE TEACHERS NOT KENYANS??? ARE THEY EATING STONES??? ARE THEY PAYING SCHOOL FEES USING STONES??? AREN’T THEY FACING ECONOMIC CHALLENGES LIKE OTHERS WHOSE SALARIES ARE INCREASED??? EVEN YOU THE 70 000 WON’T BE SAFE,BEWARE!!! EVEN IF WE ARE GOING TO LOSE THIS BATTLE,RIFT VALLEY TEACHERS ESP.PLEASE DON’T LOSE IN 2017!!!

This is not a comedy. The Govt is bent on breaking the Teacher’s strike. The Executive arm is a powerful machinery, & is starting to play it’s cards. Though the Teachers have public support & deserve the increment, Court Rulings, notwithstanding, Arbitration by a Committee, as Ruled by Justice Abuodha on how to IMPLEMENT the 50/60, is the best way forward here.
