The meeting organized at Orange House among grassroots Gusii leaders from the two Nyanza counties of Kisii and Nyamira was yesterday hijacked by a political caucus of kisiis living in Nairobi who made several demands in exchange of their support for ODM in the forthcoming elections.
Kenya Today has learnt that several leaders from Gusii were surprised when a speaker started making the demands, many which bordered on the comical. The full list of demands contained special nomination favours the group want as well as automatic nomination in over 10 wards within Nairobi. The list of demands is said to have had blessings of some ODM luminaries and party stalwarts from Kisii like Hon Richard Onyonka, Hon Simba Arati and ambassador Jeff Nyamboga.
“They want Nairobi zoned and a candidate from the community running for a parliamentary seat be given an automatic nomination by the party in areas such as Dagoretti North, Embakasi Central and Kasarani where they are the majority. They also want the party to reserve for them ward rep tickets in 15 wards and a candidate from the community to vie unopposed for at least one of the four ‘influential’ elective posts – governor, deputy governor, senator or woman representative,” a local media has reported.
The grassroots team from Kisii were led by Kisii senator Chris Obure and Kitutu Masaba MP Timothy Bosire led the delegation. Bosire is the ODM Party Treasurer.
