ORANGE STANDOFF:ODM Youths oppose Raila sacking of ‘stand your ground’ bodyguard

ORANGE STANDOFF:ODM Youths oppose Raila sacking of ‘stand your ground’ bodyguard

November 3, 2014

A number of ODM youths have not welcomed their party leader’s decision to sack his bodyguard who refused to ‘rescue’ Executive Director Magerer Langat from being ejected out of the Thursday CORD parliamentary group meeting at Orange House.

“When baba was attacked in Mombasa, we were so annoyed by his body guards for not doing enough. That was a wrong order and we support the soldier for not following it,” said one of the youths who requested anonymity to discuss the incident candidly.

The ODM leader is reported to have yelled at his bodyguard to go rescue Magerer fearing the rowdy MCAs would ‘kill him’ but the young man stayed by his side, unconcerned by the melee which saw Magerer get ejected from the meeting.

Reports indicate that an infuriated Odinga later fired the bodyguard for disregarding the order.

This has not gone down well with young party honchos who now say the bodyguard’s responsibility is to protect their party leader from harm, and not ‘a party traitor’ like Mr. Langat.

Langat was reported to have claimed during a political parties meeting bringing together all registered parties that his party ODM is dead and the flag bearer and party leader Raila Odinga should exit.

Angry MCAs from Nairobi county did not take Magerer’s words kindly and when the party held its NEC meeting, an opportunity presented itself to man handle the retrograde party official.

The youths now want the ODM leader to promote his body guard to head his security.
