Former TNA Secretary General Onyango Oloo is the force behind a power tussle to control Kisumu Maendeleo ya Wanawake branch. In short, Onyango Oloo is dividing women.
Oloo, whom the high court recently barred from participating in politics and dissolved his position as TNA Secretary General is using his wife, Caren Akech Oloo, to remain relevant in Kisumu politics. The duly elected Maendeleo ya Wanawake representative for Kisumu City was Atieno Otieno. However, Oloo’s wife grabbed her position from the back-door and is using Oloo and Kisumu Governor Jack Ranguma to entrench herself.
Ranguma is getting involved in the matter to finish finish Atieno Otieno who was his main challenger in the 2013 Kisumu gubernatorial race. Some also say Ranguma is aware he may not clinch the ODM ticket so he is using his new found love with Onyango Oloo to endear himself to the TNA powers just in case ODM gods visit thunder on him.
Already, a faction of Maendeleo ya Wanawake gravitating towards Atieno Otieno has moved to court to challenge Oloo’s wife.
The reason the Oloos are fighting tooth and nail to control Kisumu has more to do with economics than politics. President Uhuru is said to be keen in funding women groups in the area and the Oloos want to control the millions. They are also positioning themselves to be the face of TNA in 2017 so that each get the spoils after the vote. Onyango Oloo often brags he has been assured a parliamentary nomination while the wife will be nominated as MCA in Kisumu.
Meanwhile, despite a court stopping a planned Harambee organized by Oloo’s wife as the Maendeleo ya Wanawake head in Kisumu, the fundraiser, attended by TNA Chairman Johnson Sakaja and Kisumu’s Governor Jack Ranguma, went on.
