BREAKING: ODM MP Hon Richard Onyonka DEFECTS to Uhuru’s Jubilee

BREAKING: ODM MP Hon Richard Onyonka DEFECTS to Uhuru’s Jubilee

July 1, 2015 Leave a Comment

Former Assistant Minister for Foreign Affairs and ODM MP Richard Onyonka has decamped to Jubilee. Onyonka becomes the first MP from the opposition to reveal he will defend his seat on a JAP ticket in the 2017 elections.

He cited NYS programme for Kisii county as the reason why he is shifting allegiance from CPRD to Jubilee. Those in the know however say the MP, who has been having a long running corruption case, struck a deal to have the cases dropped by the state in return for political support.

Onyonka had been accused of selling sugar meant for IDPs in his constituency. Despite not having been elected on an ODM ticket, he became assistant minister after Raila nominated him while forming the ‘half’ of cabinet in the Grand Coalition Government.

Towards 2013 elections, he decamped fully to ODM, winning his Kitutu Chache South Parliamentary seat.

Before jumping to JAP, Onyonka had shifted his support from Raila to Dr. Kidero, saying he (Dr Kidero) stood a better chance of winning in 2017 on CORD ticket.

“If not Kidero, I really do not see any other hope of having a President from Nyanza region. We should give him adequate support when the right time comes,” he said.
