Kitutu Chache MP and former foreign affairs assistant minister Richard Onyonka will be charged for abuse of office and conspiracy to defraud the public offences after failure to pay VAT amounting to ksh 21, 250,628. If charged, the MP risk being the first 11th parliament legislator to lose his parliamentary seat over fraud.
DPP Keriako Tobiko yesterday approved the recommendations by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission to charge the legislator.
The allegations arise out of a sugar purchase meant for IDP’s from Chemelil Sugar Company in which he purported that the Kitutu Chache Constituency Development Fund had lawfully withheld the said tax.
Hon. Onyonka will be charged together with another, Mr. James George Siro who will face charges of conspiracy to defraud the public and fraudulent acquisition of public property (i.e. the tax) from the said purchase.
Before parliament went on recess, Onyonka became the public face of a push by some 25 MPs to have parliament end the ICC trials of President Uhuru Kenyatta and Deputy Willim Ruto.
