Ojaamong-Odera enmity goes physical, leave several people injured
The long running enmity and verbal war between Busia County Governor Sospeter Ojaamong and Teso north MP Arthur Odera yesterday went beyond
control leading into physical fight between the two groups.
Trouble started yesterday morning when the governor’s team tried to rearrange chairs at St.Stephen Keng’atunyi secondary to fit in the
governor’s chair at the dais for a harambee function that had been organized by Hon. Odera.
Odera’s team was not pleased by the move and allegedly attacked one of the governor’s assistant, Odongo a twin brother, while Odera himself allegedly
slapped Stephen Okalebo, another worker in the office of the governor.
Odera was also fisted by another person from Ojaamong’s camp leading into exchange of blows between the two camps and at one point use of stones and other weapons.
Odongo was injured as he protected the governor’s seat which the Odera team wanted to lynch. He managed to take it away and the governor was forced to sit on an ordinary chair.
Teso north Sub-County administrator Peter Ekisa was also rained on with blows by Odera’s people and left with body injuries.
Chaos erupted again after the governor arrived disrupting the harambee that was going on although police officers came in and contained the situation allowing the harambee to continue where five hundred thousand shillings was raised.
Ojaamong gave fifty thousand, Odera fifty thousand while the chief guest ,Kuria East MP Mathis Robi, gave sixty thousand shillings. Kipkelion MP
Jackson Kipkorir Rop who accompanied the chief guest gave fifty thousand shillings.
County Executive committee member for roads and public works Gregory Odeke gave thirty thousand shillings.
Later on the two camps went online and continued abusing each other vowing to outdo the other.
But during his speech, governor Ojaamong urged youths to cease from engaging each other physically, saying Odera was his friend and that there were some people who were inciting him,
“Odera is my friend but we have some people who incite me and him to quarrel and fight all the time.
On his side, Odera accused Ojaamong of causing chaos and disunity,
“If you push me too hard on the wall I will react,†he told journalists afterwards.
Hon. Robi condemned the chaos and urged leaders to respect their positions.
Governor Ojaamong has been verbally attacking Hon. Odera in public with the recent one being on 4th July during Ushirika Day at Busia polytechnic where
he accused him and some MPs of playing cheap politics in funerals instead of spearheading development,
“This is now a good forum where all leaders should come and give their advice to the public on development issues. But we have some MPs whose work is to play cheap politics in funerals. Someone is bereaved and you go there making noise to them about useless politics. Hon. Emase you are here,
please go and tell your brother to try and change.â€
And on 8th June 2015 during education day at Aterait primary, Ojaamong accused Odera of being the chairperson of BOM (Board of Management) at
Kolanya Boys while his CDF chairman being the BOM chairperson at Kolanya primary, and again sent Teso south MP Hon. Mary Emase who was present to go
and advise Odera,
“I think some of our MPs are confused and don’t know what they are doing. I’m told my brother Odera is the chairperson of BOM at Kolanya Boys and his
CDF chairperson is the BOM chair at Kolanya primary. Since I was born I have never heard such like a thing. Emase please tell your brother that is
not correct.â€
Odera has also been accusing governor Ojaamong of incompetence and sidelining Teso north in terms of development.
