The National Youth Service budget has more than doubled in this financial year to over Ksh 6 billion. The estimates for the NYS for the last financial year was Ksh 3,955,195,687. In the Financial year beginning July, according to budget document released by National Treasure, the NYS budget will be Ksh. 6,037,744,700 and is projected to increase to Ksh 6,439,973,700 in the 2016/17 budget.
Could this explain why former NYS director Kiplimo Rugut was hurriedly sacked through an SMS by Devolution and Planning Cabinet Secretary Ann Waiguru and replaced quickly by Dr Nelson Githinji?
Sources reveal that with entry of Githinji, the top three bosses at the national training institution come from one village in Mt. Kenya. Several departmental heads also come from neighbouring villages in the same region.
