The story on Sunday Nation about Raila asking US to help Kenya leave Somalia is another of those increasingly petty Nation Media Group pro-jubilee regime propaganda. There are Kenyans who want KDF to pull out of Somalia and do more to protect homeland and safeguard our borders. It has nothing to do with America. Raila has made this call severally in the past. It s not new.
I read the story to get the exact words Raila used in this new begging. No quotes. None at all. When you write a story about someone, nothing is as sacrosanct as the quotes. Quotes are holy.
If you claim I said something, quote me on it. And quote me correctly. Verbertim—word by word. Want to know why they didn’t quote Raila Odinga? Because the claims they are alleging on him aren’t his. Those are their creation. They are what the media house has been given to peddle.
The Americans themselves went into Somalia and have never returned. What happened to their soldiers is still fresh in their minds. They will never put their human beings in Somalia.
The story is picked from an informal meeting between Odinga, also attended by former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, and a visiting US delegation to Kenya whom he hosted in his Karen Home on FRIDAY. The same leaders also met President Uhuru the following day.
Egregiously, the story does not even purport to quote a source who attended the private meeting. The only time they quote Raila is at the very last line of the story, sadly, the statement was said days ago, but is made to appear as if he made it during the meeting with the US leaders.
Here is the statement: “We moved in there out of frustration and a feeling that the international community was too slow. Our position in Opposition that we now need to retreat and secure our borders,†Mr Odinga said.
Does this appear like ‘pleading or begging’?
I have spoken to those who attended the meeting and no such discussion, no begging or ‘pleading’, as the paper puts it, ever occurred. Roping in Raila’s name however helps Daily Nation and their regime masters maintain the ‘grievance politics’ against Odinga they need to keep waging as it is the only campaign theme open for Jubilee.
With failures everywhere, with a manifesto in tatters and an economy only doing good on paper, Jubilee campaign rhetoric in 2017 will be more personalised and ethnically bigoted as never before.
Rational people will only vote Jubilee out of ‘fear or hate’, and one way to create the ‘hate’ is to perennially misrepresent and mis-characterize Odinga. This is where Daily Nation comes in. You all know the paper is purging its editorial of ‘independent minds’, including cartoonists and by 2017, only the Gaithos of this world will be calling Jubilee shots there.
To claim that Raila is begging Obama to end an war that Kenya joined as a sovereign nation is Nation’s continuation of the ‘western puppet’ propaganda of 2013.
At its finest, such media framing presents Raila (the Opposition) as a perennial beggar of international assistance and Uhuru as the man who patriotically stands against international intrusion in Kenya’s ”internal affairs”. Dubious and incomprehensible as it sounds, such is the stuff that petty politics and mass misinformation is built on.
The Mt. Kenya group in Daily Nation again wants to plunge this country in another mayhem as they did in 2007/08 with their biased, ethnocentric and pathological editorial lies.
[Someone abreast of the intrigues at Daily Nation last week told me every beginning of the month, a group of senior editors meet another group of senior TNA operatives at Norfolk Hotel to plan the month’s Daily Nation politics. How true, I don’t know].
