Nandi Council of Elders now want a cleansing ritual to be urgently conducted on Deputy President William Samoei Ruto failure to which he will never be president of Kenya and may rot at the ICC.
The curse which dates back to 1885 was put on the whole Nandi community, the Kalenjin sub-group where DP Ruto hails. The spell was cast by Kipnyolei Turugat, father of Nandi Warrior Koitalel Arap Samoei, who resisted British rule only to be betrayed by gluttonous Nandis to the British, who killed him.
Elder Christopher Koiyogi, 103, a member of the Talai clan to which the Turugat and Samoei belonged, said cleansing is urgent. Koiyogi, who is a direct descendant of Samoei, said the ritual should involve members of the family linked to the death of Turugat.
“The Kapsyodoi family and the Kaptumois clan are behind the curse,†Koiyogi said.
Nandi elders’ chairman Joseph Chemoina said all Kalenjins who testified in the ICC case against Ruto are Nandi. He said the ICC case is directly connected to betrayal of the Nandi community.
Chemoina spoke in Nandi Hills town during a ceremony to mark 110 years since the death of Samoei.
“Was it by mere coincidence or by design that they were all from a single community out of the nine subtribes?†he said.
The elders say the community’s leadership is inadequate.
“How did Jean Marie Seroney, Chelagat Mutai and Bishop Alexander Kipsang die or were hounded out of leadership positions?†Chemoina asked.
