Those whom the gods would destroy, they first make mad – Ancient Greek sage
Mutahi Ngunyi, the intellectual architect of the jubilee government and Uhuru Kenyatta’s presidency has told his boss to attend the ICC hearings. Somehow, the man of the tyrannical numbers, like many noblemen in the King’s kraal, is slowly catching up with the reality of ICC indictments. The man has decided to cover the King’s nakedness!
In two related tweets, Ngunyi first summarised what in ‘her’ warped logic was the ICC game plan thus:
ICC original game plan was this: Uhuru/Ruto refuse to go. Warrants are issued. ICC wins morally. Bensouda goes to Bermuda for holiday. finito.Â
Then later the same day, October 14, the venerable political scientist who was recently appointed by Uhuru as a senior political advisor clarified his thoughts, crystallising what he sees as a clear highway to finally dismember the ‘elephant’ in the room. The genius tweeted:
My 11th hour thought. Uhuru should go. He should damn the AU and its cowardice.Botch the ICC scheme. However, he should not attend the judgement.
Wow! Now, that is a man paid to offer political advice! Let’s discuss it further, especially this last rant. First, Uhuru will attend the ICC. He will sit in Judge Osuji-Eboe’s court with his legendary red pepper eyes and look straight at his accusers. Not that he would have loved to do that, but that is the only option remaining!
The other option, boycott, is so disastrious that it may make a man who has sworn he wants to be around for 20 more years to become a private citizen in just four years. Remember Ruto is at the Hague, Raila is in USA; Kalonzo, Marende, Kidero, Rutto, Wetangula, Kenneth, Mudavadi and so many other politicians are just waiting! You see, when going becomes hard and systems begin to crumble, the people of Kenya may just abandon this whole Jubilee thing, especially the TNA side of it. I mean, in politics, there is nothing like ‘for better or for worse’. Always, inherent selfishness only insure ‘for better’, thus any economic and social doldrums which may face the country as a result of the existence of a ‘fugitive man’ will be avoided at the right and earliest moment.
So, forget the talk about the UN Security Council. Forget some British Aristocrat claiming in London that he is pushing for Britain to ‘put pressure on the ICC’ to delay, or even stop these cases. Forget the African Union and its empty and shambolic threat; even Ngunyi knows the ‘cowards’ who belched insidious verbiage at Addis Ababa the other day can do nothing.
If anything, examples abound. We had Kibaki’s look alike, one Bhagbo who thought Ivory Coast was his kitchen. This man is at the ICC. There was also Charles Taylor who chopped off limbs and raped and did the things Uhuru is accused of doing. He begun 50 years in a British jail the other day, though he prefers Rwanda. The list is long, including Gaddafi of Libya. Thing is, world justice (what they call injustice) Â is egregiously fatal. It puts strongmen behind bars, and for a very long time.
What we are seeing is a president increasingly coming to the conclusion that the only way is the ICC way! What we are seeing is the ‘hour of reckoning’ bent sharply towards justice with each second giving an azure indication that nowhere needs Uhuru on Nov 15 other than the Dutch city. Even Nairobi does not need him!
This new thinking within Uhuru’s innercore is good for the country. At least, sanctions will be delayed till the judgement day, when, say, he is found guilty as charged! Did you not read the last part of Ngunyi’s treatise? Attend the hearings BUT do not step at the Hague during the judgement!
There is a way justice humbles. There is a manner the rule of law balances the vagaries of man, including men of means and power and money.
So feel happy and relieved that despite Matsanga and his cantankerous Pan-African hullabaloo the other day, ‘the sword’ will find a place in the dock! In the final exegesis, wasn’t the ICC not for the sword welders?
